Course Planning
This post is in addition to UBC LEAP's Planning Your Courses post that came out earlier today. I'll just add a bit of commentary on their article as well as a few extra tips that I've used in the past.
“The Demon in the Freezer” by Richard Preston
The Demon in the Freezer is a novel by Richard Preston. It is a non-fiction thriller following both the smallpox eradication program and the anthrax attacks on the USA following September 11, 2001.
“The Cellist of Sarajevo” by Steven Galloway
The Cellist of Sarajevo is a novel by Steven Galloway, a creative writing professor at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. A fictionalized account of the Siege of Sarajevo, which took place from April 5, 1992 until February 29, 1996, the novel primarily follows 3 characters (Arrow, Kenan, and Dragan) as they try to survive in the carnage that is Sarajevo.
“Women in Love” by D.H. Lawrence
Women in Love is a novel by D.H. Lawrence. It is the fictitious account of the romances of two sisters, Ursula and Gudrun, with their romantic counterparts, Birkin and Gerald (respectively). Although it seems like a giveaway, the back of the book states that one of these couples will find love whereas the other couple will find death.
UBC Residence
I got a residence offer a couple of days ago and today I accepted it :)
Thus, starting in August, I will officially be a resident of Marine Drive :3 (Yay! No more bussing! Which I'm especially excited for after three one-week trips last week lasted over 3 hours...)
And now, I just need to decide when to e-mail the roomies... ...I don't know any of them yet, but I don't know if 2 months is too early to contact them? >.>;;
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to the residence experience :) Hopefully it goes well!
Alors…
So... ...all of my marks are out as of this morning... ...and I got totally slaughtered this term...
...reminder to self: never take a heavy courseload containing biochemistry and physics EVER again...
“Azumanga Daioh” by Kiyohiko Azuma
Azumanga Daioh is a newspaper-comic-gone-manga series by Kiyohiko Azuma. It is a comedy following a group of high school students (and their teachers) throughout their time at high school.
Grades are out!
Grades are out as of this morning (at midnight)! Check the SSC to see which marks have been released so far--I think there's still two more weeks before final marks have to be in.
On a side note, I passed biochemistry 8D /cheer
Textbooks For Sale
Thought I might as well try this since I got a few e-mails from the bookstore saying they're running short on textbooks...
I have the following textbooks available for sale. I'm trying for 60% off the UBC Bookstore's price, but prices are negotiable. Send me an e-mail [textbooks at tylersuzukinelson dot com] to inquire about any textbooks.
PS: All textbooks are in excellent condition unless otherwise stated.
End of Term Wrap Up
This is my End of Term Wrap Up for term 2 of Winter 2009 (following last term).
...hated this term, so more bitching than usual... ...remind me to never take 6 courses with final exams simultaneously ever again...
Facebook is creating more privacy issues…
Lifehacker >> Delete Facebook Apps that Now Have Greater Access to Your Data
Apparently Facebook has decided to allow apps to keep data that you've allowed them to take (data which initially was deleted within 24 hours of being obtained). I don't know if this impacts you, but you may or may not want to uninstall some of your Facebook apps... ...especially since some people have so many of them...
On exams…
So, today was my first of six exams (GEOB 103) and it was also my first time ever going to the wrong exam room: Parris and I went to Osborne Gym instead of Memorial Gym (because I'm supposed to actually keep track of which gym is which?!).
An unrelated note: UBC, please never schedule exams on 4/20 ever again! There were so many people smoking pot on the bus, I swear I was going to be intoxicated by the time I got to my exam -.-;;
...that being said, it was amusing noticing things today such as somebody being so high that they walked away from the bus without their bike, and then had to chase down the bus to get their bike before it drove away...
ATTN: Those Who Want A Rapid Transit Line To UBC
Hey everyone, just thought I'd bring this to your attention. It appears Translink is back to putting thought into making a Rapid Transit Line to UBC. Please lend them your feedback, even if it's just a brief "JUST DO IT" :3
