Stand Canada's mandate is to mobilize a critical mass of Canadian students, citizens, and decision makers to end the crisis in Darfur, and respond to future threats of genocide.

UBC is an active Stand chapter increasing awareness about the ongoing crisis in Darfur through events targeted at both students and the community at large.

We hold bi-weekly general meetings, and bi-weekly team meetings.

Our team projects for the year are:

  1. Advocacy - Targeting politicians through personal meetings and letter writing campaigns in order to demand action from the Canadian government.
  2. Outreach - A specially designed presentation and role-play activity to be presented to high school classes across the lower mainland in order to increase awareness and inspire action.
  3. Fire Wood Run - April, 2009 - A charitable run/walk highlighting the tragedies Darfuris endure while having to leave the relative stability of refugee camps in order to find firewood. Participants will carry a symbolic twig/piece of wood over the course of the run, and all funds raised will go towards purchasing solar powered stoves to be sent to the camps to eliminate the need to leave the camps for firewood.
